Cryptic crossword No 1,958

Thanks Ferty. There was some good stuff here --- I enjoyed clues like 6a, 14a, 22a, 16d, and 18d. I did run into some problems completing this, sometimes because I couldn't make sense of some surfaces e.g. 12a, 20a, 1d, 2d, and 5d. More in reply.
