Cryptic crossword No 188

Hello Plumbwizard. Found this tough, though theme was clear before solving any. Took ages to get going with 2d. Then, very slowly managed most but revealed half a dozen. Mainly down to my limitations as a solver, the answer was never the first thing to pop into my head and I took a long time to come up with alternatives. I also seem to know less about the theme than I thought I did! 2d was my favourite, very neat. Also liked 14,3 didn't know these things were called this but could work it out.
