Thanks tpg, a good workout there. Managed to solve most of it well enough, but foxed by a couple of nhos. I particularly appreciated 4a, 19a, 27a, 5d, 8d, 21d among others. A little more detailed discussion in reply, spoilers.

Nice one tpg, thanks. 80% gift, 20% poison (mostly on the left hand side) I'd say, but I was ultimately defeated by NHO 7d. Like PM, I wasn't totally convinced by 14a. Lots to enjoy though. My picks were: 4a, 15a, 22a, 29a, 1d, 5d, 17d and 23d.
