I presume you have to be Victoria to fully appreciate this one... 16a is fairly well known (probably the only example of that definition that I could name), so that's OK, but I've never heard of 14a or 34a. I got 10a from the wordplay but have no idea of the relevance of the definition. I think I can make a fair guess at the relevance of 1a and 4a though!

As Widdersbel observes, there are a few clues which require inside knowledge, but 14a is the only one that isn't gettable. The wordplay for 10a, 16a, 34a, is clear enough for someone without the inside knowledge to get the answer with a fair degree of confidence. Unfortunately, 9a is unsound, because the obvious answer is VIC, the name of "a formation devised for military aircraft and first used during the First World War". That apart, this was an enjoyable and, IMHO, well-constructed puzzle.
