Cryptic crossword No 168

2d is clever, I like it.

Lovely puzzle, Hubble, thanks. Particularly liked 12A, 17A, 22A, 16D, 21D, 22D.

This was enjoyable, and if it appeared as a Guardian Quiptic I don't think there'd be any complaints. Particular likes included 8a, 14a, 22a, 27a, 2d, 3d, 16d, 18d, 22d. 20a seems a bit weak, but that's the only real cavil. [SPOILERS IN REPLY]
