Cryptic crossword No 1,556

I watched this solved by panthera on cryptic sunday, Haven. One of your better puzzles, imho, with some quite cute ideas and constructions scattered throughout. 28a earned a laugh from me and on the stream. Well done.

I agree with PM about 28a although it was one of my failures. I loved 7d, a very succinct and clever clue.....
