Cryptic crossword No 1,549

Hi Salix, thought I'd have a go at this one and solved it, though needing a couple of letter reveals. I particularly enjoyed 19a, 26a, 27a, 2d, 9d and others. But I struggled with some others due to possibly my lack of specific knowledge (e.g. 13a, 5d) and what seemed to me to be more questionable definitions (e.g. 1d, 2d, 16d). But overall solid and enjoyable. Spoiler in reply.
