Some really good fun here Leucine, with clever construction throughout and some cheeky sub-themes. A good range of difficulty across the grid. The cross-referencing helped with some of the trickier ones. I particularly enjoyed 1a, 9a, 13a, 7d, 8d &, 17d among others. Some spoilery thoughts in reply…

Lovely puzzle, thanks Leucine, with a good variety of ingenious clues and fun sub-themes. It was an enjoyably steady solve until a few held me up at the end with my GK found wanting, although I did manage a full grid with only a couple of uses of the crossword solver. Particularly liked: 9a, 10a (outrageous but I think it works), 26a, 1d, 7d and 16d. Spoilers...

What a delightful puzzle, Leucine. I'm bang in line with the previous two commenters: a very nice range of devices, some cute surfaces, interesting sub themes in those surfaces, plenty of humour. A really enjoyable - if fairly quick - solve. But the latter is by no means to your discredit. If you intended to give pleasure, you sure did. The speed of solve is due to the cluing clarity. Faves inc 7a, 9a, 26a, 28a, 1d, 7d (but don't mention it) and 16d (COTD). Spoilers in reply. Thanks. PM
