Cryptic crossword No 1,298

Hello Catnip and welcome back. Another super puzzle with lots of ingenious devices, plenty of misdirection and some delightful surfaces. Do you have Annotations you can enable? Nice one, Catnip, some fun ideas here - particularly like 10a and 26a

I got 3/4 the way through on my first attempt and most glad I came back to finish Catnip, the first of yours I've tried and very glad for it! Quite a few tricky words in the fill but all fairly clued. I particularly liked 10a (neat), 12a (satisfying), 21a ("unsurpassed beauty" is lovely), 27a (neat), 1d (lol), 16d (nice surface) and 24d (neat). Your surfaces are nicely constructed too, and look forward to your next!
