Cryptic crossword No 1,141

Hi Filatore - I took this offline to solve as is my preference. Well challenging, but I confess that the bottom left quadrant has defeated me (so far). Favourites were 8a (very clever!), 15a, 5d, 6d & 16d. Some nice constructions there, producing fun surfaces. I'll keep plugging, maybe it will all fall into place. Spoilers in reply.

I'd agree with Ozpiper that this was challenging. Quite a bit of use of check button in the end. You certainly set yourself a challenge with some of those long ones! 8a, 14a, 4d, 7d my favourites. Thanks. PM
