Cryptic crossword No 1,106

Nice one, Alf. Quite a few nice traps here, most of which I fell into. My top 3: 9A, 1D, 6D. I'm not entirely sure about 'for discovering' in 12A (the 'the' there maybe sounds a bit odd too). But that's a very minor point. Thanks!

Apologies for taking a while to get to this, Alf. Was tied up getting my own finished and I've been busy with work so I've been catching up. I have enjoyed your previous puzzles - Winter Olympics still remains in the memory - and this was no different. Lots of nice constructions and a few that were tricky to parse. I was defeated by 25a - maths not my strongest suit though I recognise the term - and I had BELT for 16d which fits two defs and couldn't fathom the third! One query. Thanks. PM
